Our Thoughts

If there's one thing this set has, it's color. The Milky Way Galaxy fits very well being a LEGO set, allowing the designers to incorporate fun and creative elements such as hearts, frogs, and even coffee mugs! The amount of layering on the set gives this vibrance more life, creating a 3D effect and adding depth to the design. Overall, for being an art set, it is one of the most ambitious sets in the theme yet.

Contents

Piece Count and Price: The set comprises 3,091 pieces and is priced at $199.99, equating to approximately 15 pieces on the dollar, which is a reasonable price for the LEGO Art series.

Figures: This set does include several minifigures, which we like to call frogs! No, but there are no traditional LEGO figures, focusing instead on the artistic representation of the Milky Way.

Build Process: The construction is divided into six sections, each with its own instruction booklet, making it suitable for group building. The use of small, varied pieces to create intricate details can be a bit much on the fingers but also enjoyable due to the several elements. Any builder should be prepared for a satisfying process that culminates in a detailed and textured artwork.

Additional Contents: The set includes a 'You are here' tile to indicate Earth's position in the galaxy, adding an educational element to the display. The final model is designed for wall mounting, complete with hanger elements, making it a very practical addition to home or office decor.

In summary, the LEGO Art 31212 The Milky Way Galaxy set offers both a challenging build and a captivating final product, making it a worthwhile addition for LEGO enthusiasts and space advocates alike.

Beautiful Milky Way

While this may seem like a boring build to some, it was actually a fun build. It was interesting to see all the different pieces they used to create texture that pops out. They could have done this with the flat round pieces used for the Beatles art piece, but they chose to use layered pieces and a few little surprises like frogs, LEGO Friends brushes, cherries, ice cream, purple carrots, and various other random pieces—one I had never seen before. This set looks amazing up close where you can see all the layers that make up the Milky Way galaxy, but it's even better when you look at it from a distance. I recommend this set to anyone who is interested in space, art, or is a LEGO fan.
